1970s
Off into the 70s we go, where the main target was still totally on a “straight” frame, with the addition of wider shoulders (I know, shoulders!!!!) but with thinner, dancing-queen hips. The ideal 1970s beauty was tanned with flowing hair and a slim, toned body — an athletic look with minimal or “natural” makeup. Actress Farrah Fawcett was considered one among the decade’s most beautiful women.
The ‘70s also saw the increase of anorexia as larger numbers of girls strove to be thin. CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story misspelled Farrah Fawcett’s name.
